A DRUGS courier was jailed for five years after being caught driving with a haul worth up to £390,000.
Police received a tip-off and stopped Marcus Barnes' vehicle on the M1, a court heard.
The car smelt of cannabis and police found two blocks of cocaine wrapped in black tape. There was cannabis in the driver's door and a small amount of crack cocaine in the vehicle.
Barnes, 32, of Thorne Close, Highbury Vale, admitted two counts of having drugs with intent to supply on June 9.
Judge Michael Fowler told him: "It is clear your life has been intertwined on occasions with drugs. You must know full well the damage drugs do.
"You got yourself into financial trouble and used the means of acting as a courier to get yourself out of that trouble," he said at Derby Crown Court.
Both blocks of cocaine were at least 84 per cent pure. They could have been divided into small deals and sold for between £200,000 and £390,000.
Sarah Allen, prosecuting, said they were found during the police check on the motorway near Barlborough, north Derbyshire.
"Due to the very high purity of the drugs, the indication is they had recently been imported," added Miss Allen.
Michael Evans, mitigating, said Barnes' second child had just been born and told the court: "He is an extremely loyal and doting father. He knows he has completely let his family down."
Barnes had taken out two 100 per cent mortgages and had a debt of £160,000.
"I am afraid once he had both mortgages, he lost his employment and the inevitable happened," he said.
"He is truly remorseful for what he has done and is never likely to repeat it," added Mr Evans.
