RESIDENTS living on a road where more than 400 houses are being built say the developments have brought increased traffic and ruined their views.
Two housing sites are under development by Barratt and David Wilson Homes off Papplewick Lane in Hucknall.
Residents had campaigned against the plans but lost their battle in April.
The two sites will be known as Papplewick Green and Merlin Park when they are completed in 2015.
Anthony Woodward is a retired miner who opposed the plans at the original consultation meetings.
The 63-year-old said: "The road is getting worse – there's so much traffic.
"There's more people and the litter has increased since the builders came here."
He added: "At one time we had a lovely view and now there are houses and the building site is an eyesore, with the big cranes and everything. It's a disaster."
Anthony and his wife moved to Papplewick Lane 26 years ago.
He said: "We could see all the way to the woods and I used to sit outside and could see for miles. I think it is a disgrace."
Richard Oldham, also of Papplewick Lane, is unsure whether the land behind his garden will be built on in the future.
The 58-year-old said: "It's been a lot busier.
"At weekends you would hardly see any traffic, but now it is busy very early."
He added: "At one point you could see for a very long way – it was all fields.
"I thought it was greenbelt. It's like selling off the family silver.
"We signed petitions, went to meetings and went on the marches but money speaks."
Mrs Eileen Diggle, 69, who also lives on Papplewick Lane, said: "The traffic is terrible. You can't do much about it."
A spokesperson for Ashfield District Council said during the appraisal of the application it was determined that highway mitigation measures were needed to alleviate the increase in traffic that would be generated.
The council is currently designing the next local plan, which will run up until 2023 and identify housing needs and where they could be built.
Average house prices in Hucknall are more than £10,000 less than the county average of about £120,000 and the town is becoming a popular choice for home buyers.
A spokesperson for Barratt and David Wilson Homes said: "We will continue to work closely with residents to ensure the development of our future phases enhance the local area and benefit the community.
"Subject to future planning, we anticipate that all building work at Papplewick Green and Merlin Park will be completed by 2015."
