COURSES to help victims of domestic violence cope with their ordeal will start this month, thanks to funding from the Ministry of Justice.
Police and Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire, Paddy tipping, secured £228,175 from the department's PCC Competed Fund to pay for projects supporting women affected by domestic abuse.
And he has earmarked £125,000 to finance the Rights and Recovery project – which includes five healthy relationship courses for women survivors in the city and 10 in the county.
Deputy Commissioner Chris Cutland, who leads on domestic abuse-related issues for the Commissioner, said: "Learning about healthy relationships is an important part of helping victims to cope with the effects of domestic abuse and recover from the harm they have experienced.
"Abuse behind closed doors in what should be the safety of home is traumatic, affecting not only the present but the future for many women who experience it.
"These courses are designed to enable survivors to reach a greater understanding of domestic abuse, why and how it happens and the impact it has on both them and their children."
The Rights and Recovery project's other groups include five healthy relationship programmes specifically aimed at South Asian women, older women, lesbian, bisexual and transgender women, and women with mental health and complex needs.
Any women interested in taking part should call Women's Aid on 0115 822 1777 for more details.
