A Clifton pensioner had her Christmas presents stolen after a thief on a bicycle knocked her to the floor and stole her bags. The 79-year-old was walking home along a footpath running between Clifton Lane and Gardendale Avenue at about 7.15pm on Sunday when she was targeted. After knocking her to the floor, the thief snatched her handbag and a Harrods shopping bag containing gifts before riding off. The pensioner was badly shaken but sustained no serious injuries. Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the incident. DC Paul Kirkby, from Meadows CID, said: "This was a despicable and cowardly attack on an elderly woman who was innocently walking home following a Christmas shopping trip. "The suspect may have been loitering in the area before the robbery so someone may have seen him acting suspiciously. "If you have any information about the incident, or if you know who is responsible, call police immediately." The man is white, between 20 and 30 years old, about 5ft 5ins tall, of average build and was wearing a light coloured jacket and dark bottoms. Witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call DC Paul Kirkby on 101 extension 853 6460 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
