Samit Patel named in England Lions squad for South Africa tour

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE all-rounder Samit Patel has been named in the England Lions squad for their tour of South Africa. Patel is in a 14-man group for five 50 over games against South Africa A in January and February. The most eye catching name elsewhere in the squad is that of Warwickshire's Jonathan Trott is in for the two First Class matches alongside Middlesex's Sam Robson and Adam Riley, of Kent. The trio will be replaced for the limited overs section of the tour by Patel, Lancashire's Stephen Parry and Jason Roy (Surrey). Trott has not played for England since their last Ashes tour due to a stress related illness. Yorkshire's opening pair Adam Lyth and Alex Lees are two of seven Yorkshire players included in squads. They are joined by fellow batsmen Jonny Bairstow and Gary Ballance, and the bowling trio of Jack Brooks, Liam Plunkett and Adil Rashid. No other Notts players are involved, although a finalised Lions touring party and the captain will be confirmed after the England World Cup squad announcement in December.
