HISTORY repeats itself for Matt Everard on Friday night when Nottingham Rugby look to ignite their British and Irish Cup campaign.

The Green and Whites go to Munster knowing only a win will do with three defeats from three so far in the competition.

Everard, who could captain the side, can draw on experience of playing Munster before having made his Nottingham debut against them as a teenager.

Much has changed since then for the 22-year-old with his room-mate at the time, Ben Johnston, coaching the team in this latest incarnation of the fixture.

He said: "I made my Nottingham debut when I was 17 in Ireland. I was with Leicester Tigers at the time and I came here for game time to play men's rugby.

"I was rooming with Ben Johnston, who is now our backs coach. I played in this exact fixture then and I've been over there a couple of times since with Tigers and Wasps and I'm looking forward to this one.

"The Irish are very passionate about rugby and it's always a tough place to play.

"Three wins are what we need. It's as simple as that. Munster isn't the easiest place to play but hopefully the momentum from the league carries over."

Changes are expected to be made from the side which has performed so well in the Championship of late, with the team having risen to fifth place after struggling last season.

Back rower Everard says those players who come into the side have to make sure that momentum is continued.

"We've not got the biggest squad so our rotation is quite limited. We don't want to just take the momentum, it's the responsibility of the guys that get the shirt to carry it on," he said.

Nottingham pushed Munster hard last time out having lost 23-12 and Everard feels lessons can be learned from that game.

"I'm disappointed we've not had a win in the three games. All three were close and there were some good individual performances," he added.

"To not get a win was disappointing but we can take some positives into the game.

"We've looked at the footage from the last time we played them and hopefully there are a few areas we can get some pay out of."

The Green and Whites prop up Pool Three but can take heart from strong away form, having won their last two league games on the road.

"There's no secret. We prepare for each game the same way whether it's home or away," said Everard.

"I don't know what it is but we've had momentum away. We've not done too badly at home to be fair."
