City: The British Heart Foundation has been encouraging students to donate their unwanted items at the end of the term.

The partnership with Nottingham Trent University has proved to be a huge success, with donations raising up to £69,220 for the charity.

The campaign has been asking students to have a clear-out and donate clothes, shoes, books, DVDs, bags and small electrical items they no longer need, enabling the charity to recycle goods that might otherwise be wasted.

Students at the university have dropped off more than 3,000 donations at the charity's collection bins, which have been located around the Trent campus.

Karen O'Donoghue, the charity's regional stock generator, said: "We've been delighted with the response from Nottingham Trent students and their overwhelming support.

"Coronary heart disease is the UK's single biggest killer."

City: Disadvantaged children across the world will receive gifts this Christmas - thanks to the generosity of Nottingham people.

Residents and groups have been dropping off present-filled shoe boxes at business Regus's offices in Toll House Hill and Wheeler Gate which have supported the Operation Christmas Child appeal.

The appeal involves filling shoeboxes with small toys, sweets and other gifts to send to children overseas in refugee camps, orphanages, homeless shelters and impoverished neighbourhoods.
