Work has begun to build two fast food restaurants in Clifton – bringing more than 100 new jobs to the area.
A McDonald's and a Kentucky Fried Chicken are being built on the site of the former Man of Trent pub, which was bulldozed more than two years ago.
Planning permission for the restaurants was granted back in 2012, but the scheme was held up by the ongoing A453 works.
Building work has now begun, and McDonald's has confirmed it hopes to open in June.
The firm will be recruiting to fill 65 jobs, while KFC is expected to bring about 45 jobs.
The news has been met with mixed reaction by residents in Clifton.
Terri Slade, who lives behind the site on Green Lane, said she was concerned about anti-social behaviour and litter.
The 33-year-old added: "I was also worried it might de-value my house and about the fact it might affect the community with regards to obesity.
"Some people see it as an easy option and will go there instead of getting something healthy from the supermarket.
"It's great that they're creating jobs but I think it would have been better to build something like an Aldi or a Lidl."
But Marie Blatherwick, 40, of Clifton Grove, welcomed the development.
She said: "It's definitely a good thing for the community in terms of the number of jobs it will create.
"We've got a lot of young people out of jobs in Clifton so this will really help."
Angela Wilson, 54, of Sunninghill Drive, agreed, saying: "It's great they're bringing jobs to the estate. Hopefully they are going to employ out of the local area. I think both restaurants will do very good trade."
A spokesman for McDonald's said: "We can confirm that the McDonald's development on Clifton Lane aims to open by the beginning of June 2015.
"The drive-thru restaurant will bring over 65 new jobs, both full and part-time, and will provide significant investment for the city.
"Those employed at our new Clifton Lane restaurant will have access to leading training schemes, as well as the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications including adult certificates in maths and English, apprenticeships in hospitality and foundation degrees."
