Snow has begun falling in parts of Nottinghamshire, days before it was forecast.

Eyewitnesses have said the white stuff has been seen in Arnold as gritting teams get ready to tackle the roads.

More than 20 teams of gritters have been out this weekend on all snow routes across the county and will be out again tonight.

Temperatures are on course to fall below freezing with frost setting in overnight and lasting until tomorrow morning.

According to forecasters, Nottinghamshire will remain cloudy and cold throughout this evening and tomorrow with temperatures to fall a low as -3C on Tuesday morning.

There will be a good chance of heavy snow from 10pm continuing until midday on Wednesday.

Temperatures are unlikely to get much better either with forecasters are predicting that it will not creep above 1 degree with highs of five degrees centigrade on Friday.

Lows are to remain at or below freezing throughout the rest of the week.
