A former Mansfield Town player has been ordered to pay more than £1,500 for failing to dispose of his household waste properly.

Colin Daniel, who played for the Stags until last year when he moved to Port Vale, pleaded guilty when he appeared at magistrates.

The waste, which included cardboard boxes, bin liners full of plaster and a delivery box addressed to Mr Daniel, was fly-tipped on Old Newark Road in Mansfield.

Daniel was accused of failing to dispose of his household waste correctly and failing whether the person disposing of his waste had a waste carrier's licence.

Magistrates imposed a fine of £850, a victim surcharge of £170 and costs totalling £521 after the hearing on Friday at Nottingham Magistrates' Court.

Portfolio Holder for Public Protection at Mansfield District Council Mick Barton said: "We are determined to crack down on fly-tipping and people who fail to carry out the right checks on businesses or individuals who offer waste removal services."
