Roads plagued by icy conditions after the Boxing Day snow could be gritted sooner now a Nottinghamshire council has invested in a new all weather action vehicle.
Gedling Borough Council spent £21,000 on a new Ford Ranger, which can tow vehicles and gritting boxes, spread grit and deliver sandbags as floods hit.
It will assist Nottinghamshire County Council's gritting trucks, which has 23 vehicles covering the region's major trunk roads when snow falls.
Breck Hill Road, in Woodthorpe, which links Arnold and Carlton, was one of a number of roads in Gedling closed for days after the heavy post-Christmas snow.
Buses, such as the Nottingham City Transport sky blue 27 service, were delayed and in some instances could not access their full routes around Mapperley Top.
The problems prompted Gedling's council leader, John Clarke, to call for more action from Nottinghamshire County Council.
Gedling's new £21,000 vehicle is part of an ongoing strategy to improve emergency responses to severe weather.
The authority has given £30,000 towards a newly-formed Arnold Flood Forum.
Councillor John Clarke said: "We've a clear role to play in supporting the operations done by the main emergency services and this vehicle will allow us to grit some pavements and pathways and help support the County Council's gritting responsibilities when needed."
