LEE Hughes has left Notts County, the club has announced.
The striker, 36, is worshipped by Magpies' fans because he fired the club to the League Two title in his first season at Meadow Lane - and scored 66 goals in 146 games for the club.
But he has left by mutual consent six months before the end of his contract and Magpies' director Aileen Trew said: "When a player has scored so many goals and become such an icon at a club, it is always difficult to see them leave, especially when they still have something to offer the club.
"A real character, Hughesy's been a pleasure to work with and to watch on the pitch as he worked his magic...I'd like to wish Lee and his family all the very best as he moves to pastures new."
