A BMX bike club in Nottingham will get a much-needed track upgrade after being awarded £41,205 of National Lottery cash.
The money was handed out by Sport England to Youth Projects 4 Wheels, a charity run by the Nottingham Outlaws to help fund the upkeep of their track in Sellers Wood Drive, Bulwell.
It is one of 1,000 grassroots sports projects around the UK to be awarded grants of up to £50,000 as part of the Olympic and Paralympic legacy.
The money for Youth Projects 4 Wheels will be spent on improving the Outlaws' track and its on-site facilities.
Club chairman Phil Gray-Blest said: "We will use this money to create a new start hill and make other changes to the track layout.
"There will be a new pump track (a small race track), coaching area, and a toilet block and basic clubhouse, which we've been desperate for for years.
"The lack of facilities at the BMX track was holding us back, but thanks to this money we will now be able to work with more young people and we expect to see significant growth in club membership."
Other big winners in the grants scheme, called Inspired Facilities, were Nottingham Croquet Club, Nottingham Moderns Rugby Club, Mapperley Park Tennis Club, and Nottingham Croquet Club, which received £21,239.
Erewash Borough Council also received £20,000 towards its sporting activities.
All facilities improved by money from Sport England will carry the London 2012 Inspire mark, celebrating the projects' links to the Games.
The number of clubs supported by Inspired Facilities has now reached more than 1,000 – one year ahead of schedule.
Sport England chairman Richard Lewis said: "This National Lottery investment is helping us deliver a lasting sporting legacy in the area, from last year's successful Olympic and Paralympic Games.
"With so many clubs in the East Midlands having benefited from this fund already and building on the success of last summer, this is the legacy people want for their local community."
Hugh Robertson, Minister for Sport and Tourism, said: "Six months on from the start of the London 2012 Games, we have extremely strong foundations in place for the sports legacy.
"This £16.6 million investment will improve facilities at local sports clubs across the country, encouraging participation and giving people more opportunities to get involved in sport."
