A NOTTS Police officer is facing a claim he carried out a "lewd act" on a coach journey.

The force said today it is conducting an internal investigation in to the alleged incident, said to have happened on May 10.

A spokeswoman for the force said someone made the claim via an internal confidential hotline used by officers to report misconduct.

The force released no further details about what exactly the "lewd act" was, but it is alleged to have happened on a coach which had 51  off-duty Notts officers returning from London after a national rally against changes to police conditions.

A force spokeswoman said: "Notts Police can confirm the professional standards directorate has been conducting an investigation into a report of alleged inappropriate behaviour on a coach trip.

"No members of the public were present.

"A sergeant is set to face a misconduct hearing after he was alleged to have carried out a lewd act while on the coach."

They added a number of supervising officers could also receive advice for failing to stop the alleged behaviour.

The date for the sergeant's hearing has not yet been set.

The spokeswoman added: "The force expects the highest standards of  its officers and staff, and this includes an expectation for them to behave in a manner which does not discredit the police service or undermine public confidence, whether on or off duty."
