A NOTTINGHAM-born rapper is returning to his roots to give schoolchildren a chance to feature in a hip-hop video.
KC Da Rookee has toured with the likes of Eminem and Outkast and is now adding the city's schools to his list of venues.
The rapper is asking students to contribute artwork and even appear in the video for his next single.
KC, who attended Christ the King School in Top Valley, said: "We're going to start in Nottingham and then branch out.
"The plan is for the young people not just to talk to me and listen to me but to get their artwork in one of the videos.
"We're going to encourage them to listen to the song and draw or write whatever comes to them and we're going to put them in the video.
"I want to encourage art and expression. If we get 1,000 they will all go in."
The musician of over 15 years, who has previously been signed to Warner Bros, added: "In this day and age we're about machinery. I want to get people back to creativity and bring that back. It takes you to a different place and helps you forget things."
KC used to be a youth worker at the Sycamore Centre in St Ann's.
He said: "A lot of funding was pulled so I went back to doing what I loved. It was more of a grown-up thing. Before, I used the cliched bad language.
"I talk about issues going on. This music is not just for people from bad areas. I think it is something that has not been done before.
"I haven't used one word of profanity. I wanted to prove that you can spit some good rhymes and be authentic but not have to use bad words – when I go on the school tour I am going to show the kids that."
The rapper, who is in his thirties and would not reveal his real name, says meeting Jay-Z and Eminem have been the highlights of his career.
KC was on the 2001 Anger Management tour with Eminem.
He added: "I spent the evening with Jay-Z and learned a lot from him.
"I opened the show for Eminem, it was a really big show and pretty scary. He's a quiet, down to earth guy."
KC has already booked visits to Djanogly City Academy, Ellis Guildford School, Bulwell Academy and Bigwood School, with seven or eight more schools expected to be added to the list.
