SOUND equipment seized from noisy neighbours and pubs playing music too loud has been given to children for free at a music studio.
The goods, worth about £10,000 if new, were taken from officers working for Community Protection to tackle noise nuisance in Notts.
Staff at Take 1 Studios in Radford said the gift was "unbelievable" and would boost the courses in music the centre runs for young people.
Director Courtney Rose said: "It will help us with our courses and will help all the different groups, the dj-ing, the performances, everything.
"I didn't believe it at first - this is not something that normally happens - someone just giving you a load of equipment for free. You don't see it every day."
The haul of speakers, turntables, mixers and disc players was taken from homes and businesses who ignored warnings from Community Protection to keep the noise down after complaints.
People found to be annoying neighbours are given noise abatement notices by Community Protection, which is partnership of councils and police.
If they are ignored officers can apply to a court to seize equipment.
The current haul was confiscated over the last year and includes equipment taken from someone living in Ashwell Gardens in St Ann's who became known for serenading his neighbours with music over a microphone at 2am.
This included, Community Protection said, 'Whip crack away' a song made famous by Doris Day in 1950s film classic, Calamity Jane.
Take 1 Studios is a registered charity running courses and training programmes young people and adults from its Radford Road base.
Chimelle Hunter, 20, runs Take 1 Dance Troupe and teaches children to dance in weekend sessions.
She said: "It means we'll have a better dance system as the one we've had isn't loud enough, it will be much better for the kids, they'll be able to hear the music properly.
"I'm really pleased, we'd never be able to get help with stuff like this otherwise."
Dave Walker of Community Protection said: "This seized equipment would invariably end up on landfill site otherwise.
"Take 1 has done some significant work in engaging those in our city who are hard to reach, and this equipment will undoubtedly help them to achieve more."
