THE Post is closing in on its target of creating 200 work experience opportunities in the county.
The Get Notts Working campaign has seen 190 candidates taken on in a variety of roles, from office-based work to jobs in construction.
And now we are calling on firms to give someone a shot at proving themselves – and push us over the 200 mark in the process.
James Brown, 20, is among those who have reaped the rewards of the campaign.
James was taken on for work experience with D&B Bathrooms and did so well he landed himself a job.
He got straight into helping with the firm's work, including some at city council-owned premises like Beechdale Swimming Centre and Clifton Leisure Centre, where jobs include tiling and plumbing.
His boss Bryn Williamson was delighted with how he has done.
He said: "He was able to learn the trade, doing work with me including tidying up at sites as well as preparing tiles for grouting."
James landed his role after Bryn saw a Post front page asking for employers to provide work for unemployed people.
Bryn, whose firm has also done work for Notts construction firm Woodhead, added: "I saw all these people who were wanting to be given a chance so I phoned up to find out a bit more about it.
"I was able to get James's CV and thought he was the kind of candidate I was looking for. I was willing to give him a chance.
"It was a very good experience for both of us."
James, 20, of Stapleford, had been out of work for a year-and-a-half before Bryn got in touch.
He had previously worked for JJB Sports.
He said: "Work experience was really positive for me. I managed to find something I enjoyed doing. It's been great.
"I started getting the hang of everything first and pick up some new skills, which was great.
"I have really appreciated the opportunity."
The Get Notts Working campaign has been run in conjunction with the Derbyshire and Notts Chamber of Commerce and the Nottinghamshire City and County Employment and Skills Board.
David Kirkham, from the board, said: "We are confident that those young people who have been given a chance will demonstrate their skills and ability. I would urge employers to continue to support the development of young people across Nottinghamshire through the provision of fantastic opportunities such as work experience placements and apprenticeships."
