BUS firm NCT has apologised after a teenage girl with a faulty bus pass was stopped from boarding one of its buses, a mile away from the scene of a brutal rape.
Hannah Leigh, 17, said she was turned away from the bus on Mansfield Road at tea-time on a Saturday last month.
An NCT spokesman said: "Our passengers' safety is of paramount importance.
"We have a long-standing policy which states that under no circumstances should a vulnerable customer be left at the roadside, and it's a policy which is regularly communicated to our drivers.
"This was an isolated incident where one of our drivers evidently misjudged the situation, and we have reiterated with our staff the measures already in place to ensure vulnerable passengers receive support and assistance when needed."
Police Commissioner Paddy Tipping has already spoken to city transport companies about how they can help people get home after a night out.
As reported in the Post on Tuesday, bus firms have pledged that women who are alone at night and in danger should be able to travel free of charge.
Mr Tipping said he was given the guarantee during talks about safety and transport.
He said he wanted to ensure there were no more incidents like the 2011 rape of a woman in Nottingham at The Forest recreation ground minutes after she was told to get off a late-night bus because she was 20p short of the fare.
