Police appeal for witnesses after alleged racist abuse on train

BRITISH Transport Police officers are appealing for passengers who may have witnessed alleged racist abuse. People who travelled on board the 17.44 Sheffield to Norwich service on Saturday, March 2 are being asked to contact the officers. Sergeant Sue Jacks said: "A man on board the service tweeted us about an alleged incident that was taking place involving a group of approximately ten people, nine men and one female. "It is alleged that the group racially abused passengers and staff on board the train." After obtaining further details from the witness, officers met the train at Nottingham railway station. A number of the group were removed from the train, spoken to and their details taken. PC Jacks added: "I would like to appeal to anyone who may have been travelling on this service to contact us ,you may be able to provide us with vital information which can assist us in this investigation. "The British Transport Police takes reports of incidents of this nature very seriously - no-one should have to suffer this type of abuse on a train."
