AN investigation has begun into Notts Police's response to an assault in the city. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is looking into the force's response to an incident in Derby Road, Nottingham on January 4 in which a man reported being punched in the face by another man who then drove off in a car. The IPCC say the injured man suffered concussion and bruising and has remained off work since the incident. The alleged attacker, Imran Akhtar Hussain, 26, has been charged with common assault by beating in relation to the offence. Hussain, of Tilehurst Lane, Bracknell, has also been charged with murder after the death of 18-year-old Kieran Crump Raiswell, in Whalley Range, Manchester, January 16. A post-mortem test concluded Mr Raiswell died from a stab wound to the chest. Notts Police has referred the assault case to the IPCC and after assessment it has been decided an independent investigation will be carried out. IPCC Commissioner Sarah Green said: "We will be looking at the quality and thoroughness of the Nottinghamshire Police investigation into the assault, and whether there was any reasonable opportunity to apprehend the suspect earlier." A Notts Police spokesman said: "The circumstances leading up to and following a common assault on a 38-year-old man in Derby Road, Nottingham has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission. "It comes after a 26-year-old man was charged with the murder of 18-year-old Kieran Crump Raiswell, who died in Manchester on January 16. The same man is also suspected of carrying out the common assault in Nottingham on January 4. "The Independent Police Complaints Commission has confirmed they will be conducting an independent inquiry and the Force is cooperating fully."
