Alcohol misuse needs to be tackled before Nottingham residents can improve their health, bosses have said. The proposal has been published as part of a three-year strategy on how to improve society's health in the city. The targets also include: Preventing alcohol misuse to reduce the number of citizens who develop alcohol-related diseases; Providing more integrated health and social care services that will ensure a better experience of care is offered to older people and those with long term conditions; Intervening earlier to increase the number of citizens with good mental health; Support priority families to get into work, improve their school attendance and reduce their levels of anti-social behaviour and youth offending. Councillor Nicola Heaton, Chair Nottingham City Health and Wellbeing Board said: "The Health and Wellbeing Strategy sets out some of the big health challenges facing Nottingham, and how we hope to tackle them. "Our aims in the strategy are ambitious and challenging and will only be achieved if we work together as a city, which is why it is important that as many people as possible – be it individuals or organisations have their say on what we are trying to achieve, and how we are planning to achieve it. "On behalf of the Health and Wellbeing Board, we look forward to receiving feedback via this consultation process, which will help inform us in producing the final strategy document that will be published in June this year." The Health and Wellbeing Strategy will form just one part of a wider approach to improving health in the city, by focusing on the four priorities the strategy builds on and contributes to the Nottingham Plan to 2020, the Vulnerable Adults Plan, and the Children & Young People's Plan. Health bodies are now calling for the opinions and views of the public on the targets which have been identified in a consultation which run up until Tuesday April 30.
