UP to 1,000 new jobs could be created on the edge of the city as part of a new retail development.
Sheffield-based developers City Estates has unveiled detailed plans for the first time – which involve building a new 83,500sq ft Sainsbury's food store with a nine-pump petrol station and 800-space car park, a Marston's pub and a drive-through restaurant – on a former oil depot off the A612 Colwick Loop Road, as well as a business area on Colwick Industrial Estate across the road.
The company said there would be around 450 new jobs at the Sainsbury's, made up of a mixture of part and full-time roles, 100 new jobs at the restaurant and another 450 expected at the employment units.
The company had previously proposed a development for the same site and now, after consultation, it has moved a significant step closer as it unveiled firm plans, which it hoped to back up with a formal planning application in the summer.
It also said the scheme would "boost the local economy and attract further investment into the area".
Residents have welcomed the news of job creation, but raised concerns over the predominance of big supermarket chains in the area.
The new plans will be unveiled for the first time at a consultation exhibition at Netherfield's St George's Centre on Friday, March 15, from 1pm until 7pm.
The news comes after developers Northern Trust Company Ltd announced plans for a new £96 million development in Netherfield including 800 new homes, sports pitches, a new care home, shops and new primary school, creating around 430 new jobs.
