NOTTINGHAM'S City Hospital is celebrating its 110th birthday today.Since opening on March, 18, 1903 as the Bagthorpe Workhouse and Infirmary there have been name changes, ward moves, building works and much more.
The city hospital eventually became part of the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust when Queen's Medical Centre and City Hospital merged in 2006.
The hospital has seen many events including, two World Wars, modernisations and royal visits.
To mark the occasion, NUH held an event to showcase the history of the Hospital on Friday, March 15. The event, attended by hundreds of people, featured talks from NUH's historian, VIP guests and interactive displays – everything from original photographs of the hospital, timelines and original pieces of medical equipment were on show for people to explore.
Peter Homa, Chief Executive of Nottingham University Hospitals, said: "This is a landmark that NUH is proud of. The City Hospital has played a key role in serving the public throughout its history and this continues today. This milestone showcases that there have been many changes over the years to move and adapt with modern times. More importantly, this celebration shows NUH will never forget the importance of its heritage and the public that it serves."
