MANY parts of Notts have been hit hard by the unseasonable weather today as the Met Office puts an amber weather warning in place for snow.More than 30 schools and colleges across the county and the city have closed due to the snow, such as Garibaldi College in Mansfield, Healdswood Infant and Nursery School in Sutton-in-Ashfield, Holgate School in Hucknall and Jacksdale Primary and Nursery School in the city.
The city centre saw around one to two centimetres of snow this morning but it hasn't yet settled.
Areas of higher land have been worst affected by the snow, with up to four inches falling in some places. The north of the county in Mansfield and Ashfield has been hit harder than the city.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said further outbreaks of snow are expected to fall throughout today and that an amber weather warning is now in place.
This means disruption to travel is likely.
But the snow is expected to dwindle away into Sunday and Monday.
The spokesperson said: "Friday has seen cloudy and cold weather across Notts with outbreaks of snow which have built up to several centimetres in some parts.
"There will be further outbreaks of snow throughout Friday evening and it will feel very cold in the brisk easterly winds, with a minimum temperature of minus 2 degrees. By Saturday the snow and strong winds will continue in Notts but will tend to become lighter and more intermittent later in the day.
"It will still feel very cold and will be frosty and icy overnight."
She added that Sunday and Monday looked set to be cloudy with no forecast for snow, but would still be cold with maximum temperatures of only 2 degrees.
The county council's gritters were out overnight again making sure the main roads were safe and passable.
And several flights departing from East Midlands air port have been either delayed or cancelled so far today.
