FIREFIGHTERS, a vet and the RSPCA have rescued an eight-month-old dog from an air vent. Curious Jasper was in the garden at his Hucknall home on Saturday, March 30 when he became intrigued about what was happening at the other side of the hole. Without a second thought he poked his head through – soon becoming distressed when he realised he couldn't pull his head back through. Owner Sharon Hourihan, 30, found him when she got worried that he wasn't answering her calls and when she found him called a friend to help free him. When the pair didn't have any luck they called the RSPCA, who sent out inspector Nick Wheelhouse. Eventually vet Tom Foster was called out to sedate Jasper and then – when even Fairy Liquid failed to budge Jasper – Notts Fire and Rescue Service was called out. Mr Foster, of Buckley House Vets, said it was probably among the strangest job he had attended. "Jasper was getting distressed by his situation and was putting up a fight so he needed to be sedated to stop him injuring himself," he said. "After he was sedated he was snoring. His head was down and he was asleep which made it easier for the rescuers to work round him and I stayed to make sure he was stable. "I can say this was one of the strangest cases I had been called out to deal with." Crews from Hucknall and Highfields Fire Stations attended the call out as they had specialist equipment needed for the rescue. They removed the bottom of the window frame and the window which allowed them to get to the brickwork and then removed the top layer of bricks to get to Jasper. Despite his ordeal , Mr Foster gave the eight-month-old pup a clean bill of health. Sharon said: "Afterwards Jasper was like it had never happened – I was so worried about what had happened to him. We had only had him a few days but he is such an amazing dog and very calm I just hope after this he is also a quick learner."
