NOTTS County chairman Ray Trew has vowed the club will come back stronger next season.
The Magpies face Colchester United at Meadow Lane in League One today, but their season is already all over with three games left.
They have no chance of finishing in the play-offs, which was the club's aim at the start of this season, and Trew admits he can't wait for the campaign to finish.
"I'm sure I'm not the only one amongst us who just can't wait for this season to be over," he said in today's matchday programme.
"That's a sorry state of affairs and not how any chairman, player or supporter should be feeling at this time of year, but sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and say things haven't gone as we would have liked.
"There is a lot of negativity around the club at the moment, I am aware of that, but I am confident this is just a blip.
"We are already working on putting things right and I honestly believe that this season will be a learning experience for a lot of us and we will come back stronger as a club."
