CELEBRATIONS engulfed the One Call Stadium as Mansfield Town secured their return to the football league after a gritty 1-0 win at home against Wrexham.
Matt Green scored the solitary goal of the game, which was an overwhelmingly scrappy affair, despite the Stags completely dominating proceedings.
Stags boss Paul Cox named a strong attacking line-up, clearly showing his intentions of winning the game and taking Kidderminster out of the title battle.
The home side had made a lot of the early running in the game against Wrexham, but stray passes showed that nerves had perhaps crept into some of the player's minds.
There could be no doubt who the better side was, but for all of their possession, the home team struggled to create much more than half chances.
Town attacker Lee Stevenson had the best chances of the half, somehow missing a seemingly open goal from an Adam Chapman long throw and flicking stylishly from a Louis Briscoe cross – only for the ball to fly just wide.
But the turning came when Briscoe beat his man in the box, only to be hauled down. Matt Green stepped up to take the spot kick and drilled the ball home into the bottom left corner of the net.
The second half was a tense affair with neither side producing an attack of genuine note.
Louis Briscoe threatened the Wrexham defence on several occasions but couldn't beat the Wrexham keeper.
As the final whistle blew, the outpouring of relief and joy must have been felt across Nottinghamshire, with over six thousand Stags fans in ecstasy.
Expect the celebrations to go on long into the night and the summer as Mansfield Town return to the football league after five years.
