Missed chances costing Nottingham Forest dearly, says Billy Davies

BILLY Davies believes missed chances are costing Nottingham Forest dearly.

The Reds hit the woodwork four times and saw Luke Steele make a host of outstanding saves as Barnsley somehow held out for a 0-0 draw under a barrage of pressure at the City Ground.

It left Forest without a win in six games – and needing to secure six points from their remaining two games, if they are to have a chance of making the play-offs.

But Davies believes missed chances have taken their toll, particularly in recent weeks when they have lost at Middlesbrough and Cardiff, prior to the frustrating events yesterday afternoon.

"You can't say that Henderson missing from six yards at Cardiff was not a good chance. You can't say to me that McGugan's goal at Cardiff was not a good goal. It was," said Davies.

"We have scored in the last three games, from that point of view. Because McGugan's goal was perfectly good.  And, at Middlesbrough, Sharpy missed a good header, which he put by the post and then Wardy missed one from four yards.

"(Against Barnsley) we have had very good chances and, on another day, we might have had the goals that our chances had created. But, at the moment, things are not going for us in front of our goal.

"I can ask no more, you have just seen the same game as me. We can ask no more. You have seen the post, you have seen the bar, you have seen the crosses and the shots…  we deserved three points and we should have got them.

"In the end, we got a point. From that point of view, we are obviously disappointed it is not three."

Davies revealed that Forest had suffered several injury problems prior to and during the game against the Tykes.

"Jara has a knee ligament problem and will not play again this season. Hutchinson looks as though he has picked up a problem as well, but we don't know the depth of it yet," said Davies, who had to replace Hutchinson with Danny Collins after only 22 minutes.

"It looks as though it could possibly be tendonitis, but we are not sure. The boy was devastated. But I said to him that he has had a stop start season.

"We should not have started Henri Lansbury. He was sick on Friday night and on Saturday morning. I spoke to him at 12.30 and asked him if he could give us all he could.

"We gave it serious thought over whether to play him or not. We thought we would see how he was in the warm up and then make a decision.

"After the warm up, he said he could go for an hour and we decided to go for it."
