FOUR Newark women, now retired or semi-retired, have established a small charity with the objective of raising funds for local good causes. Mary Heath, Glenis Rix, Margaret Royall and Alexis Waitman are the founders of the Fortunata @Newark Charity, which aims to raise money for organisations which care for the sick, promote health, or undertake medical research. The first event is a Summer Supper Dance in aid of Beaumond House Hospice. Each of the women has at some time lost a loved one to cancer so this is a cause close to their hearts. The event will be held in the Sir Stuart Goodwin pavilion at Newark Showground on the July 27. A local six-piece band 'Liteside' has been hired to play a wide variety of music including light jazz, swing, boogie-woogie, jive and rock and roll. T 120 tickets have been printed, priced at £22 each. The price includes a two course supper and entry into the prize draw. There are opportunities to reserve corporate tables for up to 10 people. Tickets are available from Beaumond House Hospice, the Hospice shop, Newark Tourist Information Centre, and Southwell Minster Shop. Anyone wishing to book a table should contact the Trust at fortunatanewark@gmail.com
