A DRUNKEN prank has resulted in two women being given a caution.
The students were caught on CCTV at Ilkeston Road's Co-op emptying two bags of waste into the yard and returning minutes later to dump the contents of a wheelie bin.
The culprit's names and addresses were discovered after letters were found among the rubbish, which was dumped between 2.12am and 2.24am on October 12, 2012.
At their formal interviews, both the students, who live in Lenton, admitted the offence, claiming: "It seemed a good idea at the time as we were drunk, and our bin was overflowing because we had forgotten to put it out for the bin men."
The students, from the University of Nottingham, were issued with a caution and if caught committing any more environmental offences during the next five years they will face prosecution and court.
Richard Antcliff, head of neighbourhood enforcement at the city council's Community Protection unit, said: "Lenton triangle has a high density of students in rented accommodation, with problems of bins being left out on the street, which then has a detrimental impact on the local amenity."
