A THREE-CAR crash on the A52 led to a two-mile tailback through Stapleford last night.
The accident took place at around 6.30pm at the Sherwin Island and led to major delays.
One woman was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre with minor head injuries.
At its worst point, cars were backed up from the Sherwin Island all the way to junction 25 of the M1.
Among those caught up in the tailbacks was Alan Biddle, 37, who was driving home to Stapleford from work in Derby. He said: "It was crazy when I saw what had happened at the roundabout with the cars all smashed up. It all looks pretty serious, with bits of broken car all along the roundabout.
"I was sitting in traffic getting all frustrated that I wasn't going anywhere, but when you see how bad the crash is, you realise the ambulance and police need to close lanes to do their jobs.
"I come round this roundabout nearly every day and it's rare there's any problems because it's got traffic lights telling you when to go. But I just hope everyone is all right, really."
The road through the roundabout was closed while police dealt with the accident that involved three Vauxhall cars.
Lanes on the A52 – both before and after the roundabout – were closed.
In total, six police cars were at the scene with officers directing traffic.
There were also two ambulances and witnesses said they saw people standing by the cars wearing neck braces.
Cat Town, 19, from Bramcote, was at the Sherwin Arms pub after the crash. She said: "It's all really shocking with all these blue lights and police around the roundabout – it looks pretty serious really with people in neck braces and stretchers coming out of the ambulance. It's not a nice thing to see and I hope the injuries aren't serious."
