THE manager of an international rock band has died after a fall at a Nottingham nightclub.
An investigation was ordered after Michael Sundén suffered fatal head injuries in the basement at Rock City last Friday.It is believed he slipped and hit his head on a brick wall.
Mr Sundén, 45, from Stockholm, Sweden, was watching a gig at Rock City ahead of his own band, Swedish rock group Crashdïet, performing at the venue this Friday.
In a statement to the Post, Rock City said: "On Friday, April 19, at around 11.30pm a male visitor to the Saxon live music event at Rock City fell unconscious.
"The circumstances are as yet unclear but are not being treated as suspicious.
"Rock City's on-site medical team attended the scene immediately. An ambulance was called within one minute of the man being found and police officers stationed at the front of the venue were also called to the scene.
"Two police officers began emergency resuscitation before the ambulance arrived and took him to hospital.
"Rock City was informed the next day that the man had subsequently died. Rock City is co-operating fully with the authorities in a post-mortem.
"Rock City would like to offer its deepest condolences to his family."
Crashdïet, whose 2010 album Generation Wild debuted at number three on the Swedish album chart, are still scheduled to perform on Friday.
A Notts Police spokeswoman said: "He is believed to have slipped and hit his head against a brick wall in the basement area. The medical staff performed CPR and he was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. We are not treating it as suspicious and a file has been prepared for the coroner."
Nottingham City Council's community protection health and safety officers attended following reports of the accident.
A spokesman said: "They carried out assessments of the venue and were satisfied that there was no ongoing risk to members of the public. It appears the man tripped on two steps in the venue and hit his head on a wall but there were no defects at the venue which contributed to this tragic accident.
"There is no ongoing investigation and the venue can continue to operate as normal."
Tributes to Mr Sundén have poured in on the internet.
A statement on the Head First Entertainment website said: "This morning we awake to the devastating news that Michael Sundén of Global Music, and Head First's management partner with the band Crashdïet, had tragically taken a fall in Nottingham, England, where he was advancing the band's UK tour and meeting up with old friends.
"To say that we are absolutely crushed would be an understatement.
"Our thoughts are with Michael's wife, Carina, and their two young daughters."
Dave Tedder, of Head First Entertainment, who had known Mr Sundén for about 15 years, added: "One thing that guy didn't understand was the phrase 'that can't be done' – no matter what language it was in, Swedish, English or any other.
"He pushed you to try a little harder. We pushed each other.
"And we argued and frustrated each other but what business partners don't? With Michael's passing we've truly lost one of the few 'good guys' in this industry."
A message was also left on Crashdïet's Twitter account.
It said: "I am saddened and sorry to inform you all that Michael Sundén (manager) has died. We are waiting for an update from the guys. Our thoughts and hearts go out to his family and friends."
The band Backyard Babies, former clients of Mr Sundén, tweeted: "He was basically a fifth member from the very first record until we went separate ways. His visions and enthusiasm has inspired and helped the Backyard Babies in many ways.
"Our deepest condolences to his family."
