A MEMORIAL to Notts firefighters and civil defence personnel who gave their lives on duty is to be unveiled by the Princess Royal.
The unveiling and dedication of the memorial will take place on Thursday, May 9 in St Mary's Churchyard in the Lace Market, and will be attended by Sir John Peace, the Lord-Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire.
Relatives of those commemorated, civic dignitaries, members of the committee who raised the money for the memorial and led the project, representatives of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and representatives of The Firefighters' Memorial Trust, will also be present.
The memorial, carved on York stone, will list the 35 men and 2 women who died between 1940 and 1999.
Dave Needham from the Notts Firefighters Memorial Committee said: "We wanted to provide the memorial so the people of Nottinghamshire could remember those who gave up their lives in the line of duty.
"We also wanted it to be an open memorial so that their names can be added at the side of their colleagues."
