BILLY Davies today praised his Nottingham Forest side for keeping calm heads as they ground out a vital win at Millwall.

The Reds boss felt his players deserved great credit for keeping cool heads amid a powder keg atmosphere at the New Den.

Forest claimed a 1-0 win that pitched them right back into the play-off race, ahead of next weekend's visit of fierce rivals Leicester City.

"You know what you have to do at Millwall – you have to compete. You play against a ferocious support here, one that drives great energy into their team," he said.

"We had to come here and play with calm heads; we had to compete. I thought we battled brilliantly. In the second half we should have scored two or three more goals, but we did not take our chances.

"They are very competitive, they have a good group of fans. But we worked hard, we kept calm heads, we competed well and we got the early goal, which was important.

"We could have got two or three more in the second half. In the end, it was still a great three points.  The fans were superb. They really were. Roll on next Saturday."

Davies admitted he was concerned when Forest missed one or two opportunities to add to the eighth minute goal headed home by Greg Halford.

"We were worried, because they were good chances and it might have effected us. But there is no criticism of our players here. We have gaps to fill in this squad, there is work to do and a balance to find," he said.

"Chris Cohen has picked up a thigh strain. I thought about putting him in. But if it ripped, he would be out for six or seven weeks. So we decided to rest him.

"There is a chance he might be back next Saturday. We will definitely have Hendeson back from suspension, which I am delighted about.

"I am very pleased for Dan Harding because, coming into the side in difficult circumstances, at a difficult ground, he played very well."

Davies admitted he is now relishing the prospect of the final day clash with the Foxes.

"It is a very exciting time for everyone, not just at the top, but also at the bottom of the table. The final games next weekend are going to be nerve-wracking time for a lot of clubs," he said. "We are looking forward to it."
