FORMER Nottingham Forest transfer target Nicky Shorey has just become a free agent.
The defender is one of five players to have been released by newly relegated Reading today.
Fellow left back Ian Harte has also been told he is free to find another club, along with Noel Hunt, Simon Church and Jay Tabb.
Shorey played nine games on loan at Forest during Billy Davies' first spell in charge.
The Scotsman had been keen to make the move permanent, in January 2010, but a deal could not be agreed to land the then Aston Villa man – and he moved to Premier League Fulham on loan instead.
Shorey, 32, played 16 games in the Premier League with the Royals last season, but has now been deemed surplus to requirements.
Forest are not desperate for cover at left back, with Chris Cohen excelling there in the final few months of the campaign and Dan Harding waiting in the wings.
But Davies may still be tempted to make a fresh move for the player who performed impressively during his last spell at the City Ground.
