'BOY racers' in Hucknall could face a fine or jail time under a new dispersal order.
Under the order, police officers and police community support officers will be able to move groups of two or more people from areas of Hucknall if they believe they are likely to cause distress, alarm, intimidate or harass members of the public.
The powers will last until October and can be used by police on the A611 bypass, the A608, slip roads to the M1 at Junction 27, and roads and parking areas within Sherwood Business Park.
The order, which can lead to a £2,500 fine and a three-month prison sentence if not complied with, was put in place to target people cruising and racing cars through the area.
Sergeant Simon Scales said: "We had a number of reports of groups racing cars through Hucknall.
"This is not only very unsafe for those in the cars but for other road users as well.
"Several of the cars are modified, which makes them very noisy, causing annoyance to residents.
"We had a fatality several years ago and we want to do everything we can to make sure that doesn't happen again.
"I hope this sends out the right message that we will work alongside residents to make our communities safe and pleasant places to live."
To report a breach of the order to Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
