I CAN think of worse strikers than Carlton Cole to lead Nottingham Forest's attack next season.
The big man could do with scoring a few more goals (59 in 237 games for West Ham isn't that great). But he puts himself about and leads the attack well.
The main stumbling block, of course, will be his Premiership wages.
Forest have enough strikers who can't hit the target at the moment. What a shame they didn't sign George Boyd when they had the chance.
But it was nice to see Simon Cox come on against England and then keep his place in the team.
He will be better for the experience of playing international football and it will have done his confidence the world of good.
He started his City Ground career like a house on fire. He was the bees knees but then he just fizzled out, until the last game of the season.
For me he has to get into the box more. When he does, the goals will come.
Simeon Jackson, at Norwich, another player the Reds are being linked with, would be a cheaper option.
But he can't keep Grant Holt out of the side, so what does that say about him? Some daft people were taking about Holt for England now so long ago, but I don't rate him.
He's not a patch on someone like Kevin Davies, who was released by Bolton last season. I wonder what he's doing at the minute?
I was disappointed to see that Kris Commons had decided not to play for Scotland again.
I rated him at Forest and Derby. He had a touch of class and scored more than his fair share of goals. He's continued that with Celtic, but the standard of Scottish football is poor at the moment. It's gone down the pan. There is no getting away from that.
Commons is one of those who only qualifies because his grandma once ate some Dundee cake. Nevertheless, I just can't understand it.
He says he doesn't want to be away from home and leave his young family behind. That's fair enough. But you are a long time finished in this game and he may regret it when he looks back on his career.
Maybe he was fed up with warming the bench.
When I played for Scotland we got £125, but the money didn't matter. I couldn't wait to join up with the likes of Denis Law, Joe Jordan, Kenny Dalglish and Bruce Rioch.
