NEIGHBOURS have spoken of their shock after a woman was stabbed to death.

Notts Police were called to the detached home of 44-year-old Denise Williamson in Hazelwood Drive, Hucknall, on Friday at around 8.50pm.

Inside, they found that Ms Williamson had been stabbed. She was pronounced dead in hospital shortly afterwards.

A Home Office post-mortem examination showed she died as a result of stab wounds.

A 52-year-old man, who was detained at the scene, last night remained under arrest on suspicion of her murder.

And yesterday the community in Hazelwood Drive was reeling at news of her death.

Peter Watson, 52, who has lived in the street for 15 years, said: "From what I knew of her, she was a very pleasant woman.

"What's happened is just so shocking. This is all so unexpected. You don't think of something like this happening on this street. It's a quiet neighbourhood."

The house was cordoned off yesterday and two police officers stood on the driveway.

Neighbours had left flowers and a notes of condolence on the neatly-trimmed lawn outside Ms Williamson's property.

Another neighbour, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: "We never really knew her. They kept themselves to themselves.

"It's a very tragic thing to have happened. We can't quite get over it."

Another resident, who also did not want to give his name, said: "We don't know what's happened but we've been told she died. I always used to wave at her when she drove past."

Detectives are appealing to anyone who may have seen or been in contact with Ms Williamson in the past few weeks to contact them. Call Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
