THESE dramatic pictures show firefighters tackling a blaze in a house in Sherwood.

The alarm was raised in Wimbledon Road at 7pm on Friday and crews from Central, Stockhill and Arnold fire stations were called to the scene.

The fire was in the roof and first floor of the building. Smoke spread to adjoining houses.

The pictures, sent to the Post by a neighbour, show firefighters using an aerial ladder platform to tackle the blaze.

A cordon was in place across the road to prevent people from getting too close.

The neighbour, who did not want to be identified, said: "The fire caused extensive damage to the roof and some minor damage to an adjoining property."

There were no reports of people in the house at the time.

Crews left the scene at around 1.30am on Saturday.

On the same night, firefighters in Mansfield had to rescue a man and a woman from a burning house.

Crews from Mansfield, Edwinstowe and Ashfield were called to the blaze in Beck Crescent at around 10.45pm. They spent about two hours putting out the flames.

The woman was given first aid at the scene by paramedics. Neither of the rescued people needed to be taken to hospital.

Meanwhile, two people had to be rescued by the fire service after four cars crashed into each other in Newark on Saturday.

The smash happened in Lombard Street at 3.50pm.

Notts Fire and Rescue Service said both the people cut out of the vehicles were taken to hospital.
