A CITY schools chief has called on teachers to consider all options before opting to go on strike next month.
Hundreds of teachers in Nottingham are likely to take industrial action against Government changes to their pay and conditions.
The strike is being held on Monday, September 30.
In previous strikes in the north of the country, most schools were either closed or partly closed.
Councillor David Mellen, portfolio holder for children's services at the city council, hopes disruption will be kept to a minimum.
He said: "We don't know what the scope will be. I understand why teachers are upset with the changes proposed, but obviously we don't want to disrupt children's education.
"A difficult choice has to be made by the teachers. I would say to them that strike action should be the last resort."
The unions are unhappy with Government reforms due to come into effect from the autumn, which will see teachers' pay linked to performance in the classroom, and schools setting salaries.
