Tram works blamed for failure to collect bin

CLIFTON resident Gary Hanby says he is at the end of his tether after bin men have repeatedly failed to collect his rubbish.

Mr Hanby, who lives on Farnborough Road, claims his green waste bin hasn't been emptied on a number of occasions over the past six months.

He blames the ongoing tram works outside his front door – but says the situation isn't good enough.

The 44-year-old said: "I've had to ring the council multiple times because they've not collected my green bin.

"It's been happening ever since they started the tram works. It's very irritating and I'm really at the end of my tether.

"Every time it happens I have to ring the council – I don't see why I should have to do that."

Mr Hanby's green bin is earmarked for a fortnightly collection on Monday mornings.

But he reports that on some occasions, it hasn't been emptied until the Tuesday or Wednesday – and only after he has rung to complain.

He added: "I've put several complaints in to the council and they've told me they are trying to solve the problems, but then it keeps happening.

"It does concern me that if the bins are left out for too long, there'll be problems with rats and things like that.

"I've heard there can be a lot of rats round here, so surely this will just make it worse?

"The tram works outside are annoying enough, without having to deal with the bin problems as well.

"It seems to only be my bin and another bin on the other side of the road that don't get collected."

Clifton North councillor Jeannie Packer said she was aware of bin collection problems in other parts of Clifton and has been working to resolve them.

She said: "If bins aren't being collected that is obviously something that needs to be rectified. It's unacceptable no matter whether there are tram works going on or not.

"I have been acting on any concerns from residents who have contacted me, so if there are others I would urge them to get in touch."

A spokesman for Nottingham City Council said: "Mr Hanby contacted the council four times over the last six months to report his missed bin and our officers have been out personally to address this and discuss his concerns.

"It is unclear at this stage why the bins were missed or whether the tram works played any part."
