Notts set to decide over deals for quartet

NOTTS County are set to decide whether to give new deals to four players.

Carl Regan, Damion Stewart, Jordan Stewart and Tom Williams are all only under contract until January.

And boss Keith Curle told the Post: "All those players are vying for new contracts."

Regan and Damion Stewart look the best bet to be offered extended deals.

Right-back Regan, 32, has played ten league games this season and Curle is a big admirer of Jamaica international centre-back Damion Stewart, who rejoined Notts this month after finally sorting out a work permit.

But Williams has been badly hit by injuries and has not played a league game since the opening day of the season at Crewe and Jordan Stewart has also been sidelined with a hamstring injury.

"I think they like the environment they are working in," said Curle.

"Tom has been unlucky with injuries, but hopefully now he's just coming back and making himself available so he's got a short stint to try and earn himself a new contract.

"It's exactly the same for Carl Regan, who has stepped in as and when needed and has done very well.

"Damion Stewart came into the squad and it was like he had never been away from the team and did exactly what it says on the tin.

"He picked up a little injury, but he's back now and trying to stake a claim for a new deal."

He could even return for the Magpies in their FA Cup second round tie at League Two Rotherham United today – and Curle admits the club is dreaming of a getting into the third round and drawing a big Premier League club.

"Everybody has got the dream that they want to go to the Emirates, Old Trafford or Man City and if you get through this round who knows where it will lead – that is the excitement about it," he said.
