YOANN Arquin scored a wonder volley for Notts County in the FA Cup today.
But the Magpies were held to a 1-1 draw in the second round at League Two Rotherham United.
French striker Arquin fired Notts ahead on 32 minutes, but Millers' midfielder Ben Pringle equalised just ten minutes later.
The Magpies will be in tomorrow's draw for the third round, but they now face a replay against United at Meadow Lane.
They gave rare starts to Hamza Bencherif and Gavin Mahon against the Millers.
Bencherif replaced suspended Dean Leacock in central defence, joining Gary Liddle, Julian Kelly and Alan Sheehan in the back-four, in front of goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski.
Mahon started in a defensive midfield role and in front of him were Jeff Hughes, Alan Judge, captain Neal Bishop, Francois Zoko and Arquin.
Notts began well, attacking the away end, and Bishop headed over the crossbar from a corner in the opening minutes, after Rotherham goalkeeper Andy Warrington had made a mess of a back pass.
Kelly then curled a shot wide of Warrington's right-hand post on six minutes, after a corner was cleared to him on the edge of the penalty area.
They went even closer to scoring on ten minutes.
Sheehan swung another corner into the box and Arquin directed a header against the bar from close range.
Having gone so close to taking a lead, the Magpies threatened again a minute later, Zoko beating Millers' right-back Mark Bradley inside the box and firing a low shot at goal that Warrington held.
They then should have scored on 15 minutes.
Sheehan curled a free-kick dangerously into the penalty area and Jeff Hughes met it with a header ten yards out, but put it wide of Warrington's left-hand post.
Rotherham hit back on 19 minutes and it took a good save by Bialkowski at his near post to deny midfielder Michael O'Connor, after he unleashed a powerful shot at goal from inside the box.
Pringle then hit a long-range shot wide of Bialkowski's right-hand post on 22 minutes and Jeff Hughes dragged an effort wide for Notts a minute later.
The Magpies' dominance finally told and they went 1-0 ahead on 32 minutes through Arquin.
It was a super goal too, as Sheehan swept a cross into the box from wide on the left and Arquin volleyed it past Warrington and into the bottom-left corner of the net.
Their lead only lasted ten minutes, however, as Rotherham equalised on 42 minutes.
Judge gave the ball away close to the halfway line and Notts were punished as Daniel Nardiello sent O'Connor racing down the left wing, he crossed to Pringle and he drove a low shot past Bialkowski and into the bottom-right corner of the net.
The Magpies then almost conceded a second goal before half-time, as O'Connor swung a cross into the box and Bradley forced the ball against the far post.
Both sides had chances at the start of the second half.
Judge seized onto a flick-on by Arquin on 48 minutes and hit a dipping volley at goal from 20 yards that Warrington held and O'Connor forced Bialkowski into a save with an effort from inside the penalty area two minutes later.
Rotherham threatened again on 66 minutes.
Nardiello swung a cross into the Magpies' box from the right and striker Alex Revell headed narrowly over the bar.
O'Connor then rifled a long-range shot wide from 25 yards on 68 minutes.
Notts replied on 75 minutes, Judge aiming a shot towards the bottom-right corner that Warrington saved, but just moments later it took a good block by Bialkowski to deny Nardiello.
The Magpies then brought on Joss Labadie for Mahon and Jeff Hughes had a good chance to win the tie on 88 minutes, but shot wide from the edge of the penalty area.
Notts then survived a big scare a minute later, as Pringle totally miscued a shot straight to Nardiello inside the box and he blazed a shot over the bar.
