A Notts soldier has died after being hit by a police car on the A31 Hogs Back.
Joshua Steven Brown, 21, believed to be from Retford, was hit by a marked Surrey Police car answering an emergency call on the westbound carriageway near Guildford at around 3:35 am on Saturday December 1. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly afterwards.
Mr Brown was a trainee soldier with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers based at Bordon, Hampshire.
An Independent Police Complaints Commission investigation is continuing to establish if the police response was appropriate for the emergency call, road and weather conditions at the time and whether the officers involved adhered to the relevant driving policies, procedures and guidance.
The investigation is also examining the training and experience of the officers in relation to driving police vehicles in response situations.
IPCC Commissioner Jennifer Izekor said: "This is a tragic death of a young man with his life ahead of him and my thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time.
"I would like to assure them this will be a thorough and rigorous investigation to establish all of the circumstances surrounding Joshua's death."
An IPCC family liaison manager has met with Mr Brown's family and they have asked that the media respect their privacy at this time.
A post mortem examination took place on Tuesday, December 4.
