A PENALTY try in the final 15 minutes saw Munster inflict a fourth straight defeat on Nottingham Rugby to knock them out of the British and Irish Cup.
The Green and Whites were on course for an upset in Cork until the Irishmen ran out to win 23-16. The teams exchanged two penalties each in the opening 20 minutes but it was Nottingham who crossed the try line first when Will Maisey found Ed Styles.
Maisey was unable to convert but the visitors led 11-6. Two yellow cards reduced Muster to 13 men at the start of the second half and the underdogs capitalised with a second try, this time for Liam O'Neill.
The conversion was again wide but Nottingham had stretched their advantage to 16-6. Munster pulled back a converted try after 62 minutes to close within three points and four minutes later they were awarded a penalty try.
That was converted and then a late penalty kick for the home team rounded off the scoring. Nottingham were able to reflect on another good performance in the competition but once again they came up short.
They still have two games left in the group and the chance to ensure they do not finish bottom of Pool 3.
