City centre: Five charities will benefit from a concert by the Bestwood Male Voice Choir at St Nicholas' Church, in Maid Marian Way, on Saturday. The concert takes place at 6.30pm and also includes two young soloists, soprano Lily Taylor-Ward and alto Caitlin Anderson. The concert is in memory of May Hackett, the late wife of Bestwood Male Voice Choir member Mel Hackett. All money raised will be donated to the Alzheimer's Society, Crossroads Carers, Age UK, Guide Dogs for the Blind and the Salvation Army. To buy tickets for £10 contact 0115 927 1199.
Radford: An electrical fault has been blamed for a fire in a halls of residence at the University of Nottingham's Jubilee Campus. Firefighters were called to Newark Hall, in Wollaton Road, at 4.36am yesterday. Two crews from Highfields fire station and a third from Central fire station attended to tackle the flames on the first floor of a three-storey building. The blaze was extinguished by 5.10am. Notts Fire and Rescue Service say the fire was caused by a faulty electrical appliance. Students were evacuated for three hours as a precaution, although no one was injured.
Edwalton: The March meeting of the South Notts Flower Club will take place next Tuesday at Edwalton Church Hall, in Wellin Lane, from 7.30pm. The title of this meeting is the Italian Job and involves a demonstration by Linda Smith, from Toton. Non-members can attend for £5, including refreshments.
