MILLIONS of pounds of new investment will create 1,500 jobs in Notts.

The area is set for a triple boost expected to be worth more than £20 million – with the Government announcing cash for two major projects and three private businesses.

The package from the Regional Growth Fund includes:

The creation of a £10 million fund for businesses in Nottingham – this is expected to create 1,000 jobs.

Funding for the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership – this is worth £5 million and will create 450 jobs.

Three companies – BCM Limited, Romax Technology and Guilford Mills – will receive a share of £14 million towards projects.

The Derbyshire and Notts Chamber of Commerce has urged the Government to ensure the funding is delivered as soon as possible.

Chamber chief executive George Cowcher said: "Businesses will welcome the extra cash that the Government is making available through the Regional Growth Fund to help improve the local business environment.

"The speed at which this funding is delivered is now crucial and the projects supported by the Regional Growth Fund must be started as soon as possible if we are to see any real, tangible benefits in the short term."

Business secretary Vince Cable said: "The Regional Growth Fund is creating the long-term growth and jobs that this country needs."

City council deputy leader Graham Chapman said: "This is excellent news for Nottingham."
