THE family of a gangland murder victim have been offered fresh hope of seeing his killers caught as police review one of Nottingham's oldest unsolved murder mysteries.
David Draycott was killed on his drive in Sutton-in-Ashfield in 2002.
He was shot in the chest and abdomen but managed to get to his neighbour's door where they gave him first aid and called an ambulance.
He died four days later in King's Mill Hospital.
Now, more than a decade after his death, a collaborative police unit from the East Midlands is reviewing his case.
A spokesman for Notts Police said: "The primary objective of the Regional Review Unit is to conduct independent reviews on behalf of all five East Midlands police forces to assist the senior investigation officer in detecting the offence.
"The types of cases under review by the unit include homicides, stranger rapes, serious and organised crime and historic cases. The murder of David Draycott clearly fits the criteria and is under review by the unit."
Last year while supporting a renewed appeal for information, Mr Draycott's widow Andrea told the Post: "It is hard to think where the last ten years have gone, but not a day goes by when we don't think about David. Memories of that fateful day remain with us all.
"For any family left behind after a loved one is deliberately targeted and killed, it is difficult to get over it happening, but for us it is even harder when those responsible have not been brought to justice."
Acclaimed Nottingham crime journalist Carl Fellstrom – author of the book Hoods – said: "It is a positive move to allow a fresh pair of eyes to revisit the case.
"Significantly the cold case review of the murder is being carried out by a team of officers led by former Lincolnshire Detective Superintendent Graham White, who was responsible for the investigation that led to Colin Gunn and members of his gang being convicted in connection with the murder of John and Joan Stirland in August 2004."
A £30,000 reward was offered for information leading to an arrest and subsequent conviction for Mr Draycott's murder.
The first arrests in the Draycott murder case were carried out by Notts Police in April 2010 when two men aged 22 and 33 at the time were arrested. The men have since been released.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
