A Facebook page which encourages students at Nottingham Trent University to rate the performance of their sexual partners has been taken down amid fierce criticism. The page, titled 'Nottingham Trent Rate Your Sh*g', had received more than 1,000 'Likes' by the time it was removed by the social networking giant. On it, students were encouraged to share details of their sexual encounters and to rate their partners. The identities of those making the ratings were protected, but those of their victims were not. Dozens of 'Rate Your Sh*g' pages had been set up on the social networking site over the past week, where students from universities across the UK had been posting information about their lovers. Pages had been created for universities including Loughborough, Sunderland, Brighton and Bournemouth, according to reports. One page encouraged students to "name them, shame them and if you must, praise them", as well as post a 'review' of their performance. Facebook confirmed the pages were in breach of their community and have been removed. Pete Mercer, Vice-President of the National Union of Students (NUS), said: "If you imagine seeing the name of a friend, partner or family member on these sites then you quickly realise why pages like this are not funny in the slightest and are tantamount to bullying. "NUS has long taken leadership on tackling bullying behaviour and these sites demonstrate that our work on tackling 'lad culture' applies not just to men. "'Banter' that seeks to humiliate and belittle is unacceptable, and must be challenged both on and offline." A Nottingham Trent University spokesperson said: "We are very pleased that Facebook has moved swiftly to take these pages down. "Like everyone, our students have to consider how they use social media and we will not tolerate any posts that appear to be harassment or bullying." A number of people have taken to social news website reddit to discuss the Facebook pages. One user said: "These pages are absolutely appalling". Another wrote: "It's pretty soul destroying to read. Some things should just be kept private". Another said: "I have never been so glad that I was a socially awkward nerd at University". A Facebook spokesman said: "We do not tolerate bullying or harassment. We allow users to speak freely on matters and people of public interest, but take action on all reports of abusive behaviour directed at private individuals."
