DOZENS of people attended a jobs fair in Bulwell for the care industry.

Employers and training providers gave out information, while visitors filled in application forms for various posts and training schemes.

Racheal Kennedy, 40, of Broxtowe estate, was among those who attended.

She said: "I've had experience caring for my nan and also for my auntie.

"It has made me realise that I would really like to help people and get involved in caring, so I thought I'd come along and see what is available.

"I have signed up for a course with Care Training East Midlands, so hopefully that will be a big step towards it."

David Bailey, 29, of Hucknall, has past experience of working in the care sector and is keen to get involved again.

He said: "I decided to have a bit of a break from it about five years ago but I want to get involved again now.

"It's a really rewarding job. I've picked up some application forms today and I may be able to start some training next week."

Yesterday's event, at Bulwell Riverside Centre, was organised by the Government's Jobcentre Plus service. It was split into three hour-long sessions.

There were stalls for organisations such as Direct Health and Home Instead, as well as Care Training East Midlands.

Earlier this year, the Post revealed concerns that there was a shortage of care workers to look after elderly and vulnerable people in Notts.

Jobcentre Plus said this concern remained.

But Ian Brittain, 53, of Bulwell, who was at the event, said: "I'm glad they're holding this fair, as I've been finding it hard to get work. I worked as a carer in Australia for 12 years before I came to the UK last year. Since then, it has been hard getting a job."

Richard Powell, 46, of Bulwell, also found the session useful. "I've been out of work since May and would like to get into the care sector," he said. "I really want to help people."

Dawn Robinson, adviser manager for Jobcentre Plus, said: "It has been a big success. Hopefully we can match a lot of people up with jobs."
